More Dynamo Learning: Video Curriculum for Everyone

With the fantastic work of Case's Nathan Miller and Scott Overall, and the generosity of the Autodesk Education Group, we now have an efficient set of video tutorials to Learn Dynamo.  The videos have accompanying Dynamo and Revit files to gently guide educators, students, design professionals, mathematicians, and/or your Mom* through the first steps and more advanced concepts.

If you or someone you love is interested in bringing wholesome, visual, algorithmic goodness to your BIM, please check out these new materials!

*we realize that your Mom may in fact be all of the above.  Go Mom!

  2. Hey Zach:
Great set of video's you guys have put together. Really like the dialogue.
Dynamo looks like it could run as a stand alone program with the watch 3d component and preview background feature, similar to
    DesignScript. Any thoughts with that?

  3. There is a standalone version of Dynamo, if you build the code yourself there is an .exe that has all the nodes and functionality independent of Revit. We have done some experiments with it running on other geometry bases, but nothing that is ready for release yet.

Awesome....maybe a tablet or iPad version would do it for me. Lol.
In any case this is great.

  5. Is it currently possible to import list data into dynamo? I'm thinking revit object generation from point cloud data.
For my other hobbies' sake I hope the answer will be "No." :D

  6. Yes, you can bring in data from a number of sources and parse it however you want. There is a somewhat outdated sample called CSV to XYZ that demonstrated bringing in spreadsheet data and creating various things from it. Point Clouds in Revit are a particular kind of Revit element that Dynamo does not currently create, but you can certainly make Reference Points, or thread xyz data for curve creation. If the forms are valid (not self intersecting, etc) then you can loft them or create freeform elements from the data.

  7. thank you so much for Zach. I wish you guys could compile a description for each node and how it could be use.
